After my opening rant, I thought it was time for a beer - it's not all about wine here!

Schöfferhofer Hefeweizen – 500ml 5.0%abv Dan Murphy’s $5.00



Appearance: rich golden/carnelian. Good bead and persistent head. 3/3

Nose: complex - classic clove in abundance, also banana, bubblegum evident. Yeasty and a zesty, lemony edge, and a hint of nutmeg/cinnamon. 6/7

Palate: rich, round and satisfying. Full flavoured and follows the nose well, with great bitter/sweet balance. Creamy effervescence and bubblegum flavour on mid-palate. The finish is dry and hoppy/clovey (if that’s a word). 8.5/10

A very, very good beer and also in a large bottle – bonus! If you’ve not had wheat beer or have been frightened by it, Schöfferhofer also make a Kristallweizen, which is a filtered, clear version of the same. If you like that, then you’ll love this.

Bratwürst with sauerkraut it is then!
